About Brett…

Why St George?

Brett grew up in St George with his family, and started his career as a local mechanic. He left town in 1987 and travelled extensively throughout Australia. His adventures over the decades include the study of Environmental Engineering at The University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba. Brett has finally succumbed to the magnetic beauty of St. George and the Balonne River where he set up the business over 10 years ago. Combining his passion for the environment, local cultural people and laid back country lifestyle, he now hosts daily tours up and down the mighty Balonne.

Why Sandytown River Cruises?

St George historically had two aboriginal missions (or campgrounds) both closed in 1968, when the residents had to assimilate into the township. One campground was named Hollywood (Mandandanjii) and the other Sandytown (Kamilaroi). The Kamilaroi people form one of the four largest indigenous nations in Australia.

The Balonne River

Geographically the Balonne is an extension of the Condamine river and starts near Glenmorgan. With an overall length of just over 500km, the beautiful Balonne River is a small but very important part of Queensland’s inland river system. The river is St George’s financial engine and is the primary water source for Australia’s largest cotton farm - Cubbie Station.
